THE SHORT ANSWER
Website creation at Sage Design Lab starts at Ksh 6,999, with hosting and maintenance included for the first 3 months. From month four, the agreed Website Care plan starts at US$20 per month. Pages, features, content and integrations determine the final build quotation. Domain registration and paid tools are separate.
What does the starting price actually mean?
A starting price gives you a place to begin a conversation. It is not a promise to build any website for the same amount. A simple service website has a different scope from a booking system, online store, membership area or custom application.
Write down the pages, the action a visitor should take and the features required for that action. For a small service business, that may mean a clear explanation of services, useful examples, contact information and a short enquiry route that works on a phone. Agree any forms, payment integrations, file uploads or dashboards separately.
A sample website shows a possible visual direction. It does not make every feature visible in that sample part of the base package.
Plan for setup and the cost of keeping it running
| Item | How to budget |
|---|---|
| Website setup | From Ksh 6,999; final scope agreed first |
| Hosting and maintenance, months 1–3 | Included in the website build offer |
| Website Care, months 4–12 | From US$20/month: US$180 across nine months |
| Domain registration and renewal | Separately quoted; renewal is an ongoing cost |
| Paid tools and major new features | Separately agreed when needed |
The shilling setup fee and dollar care fee are different currencies. We agree the Ksh billing amount before signing rather than present a made-up exchange rate here. Confirm when the care period begins and what happens if you later move the site.
What is included after the three free months?
Sage’s Website Care starts from US$20 a month. The agreed scope includes hosting, SSL, routine security checks, basic SEO, speed and compatibility checks, quarterly check-ins and weekday support. It includes two small content updates per month, up to 30 minutes in total.
That is a defined maintenance allowance. A new section, custom integration or substantial redesign needs a separate scope. Agree the distinction between fixing a fault and asking for a new feature so neither side has to guess later.
A long-term working relationship is useful when your phone number changes, a service is added or customers find a confusing page. It should still have clear responsibilities and a written scope.
Ask about ownership and handover before launch
Record who owns the domain account, where the site is hosted, who can update it and how the files or source can be handed over. Keep business accounts in an arrangement you understand, with recovery details you control.
If you need to edit the site yourself, ask which changes the chosen setup supports. An editable content area, a website builder and a source-code handover are different things. Do not assume one provides the others.
Also agree responsibility for supplied photographs, text, third-party licences and any customer information collected by the site. Start with the smallest lead form that actually helps the business.
How to get a useful quotation quickly
Share your business type, current website if any, required pages, examples you like and the action customers should take. List essential features separately from ideas you may want later. Include your launch date and who will supply the text and images.
Before approving the result, test it on a phone: read the services, tap the phone number, open the enquiry route and check the confirmation or app handoff. A site that looks good but makes contact difficult has missed an important part of the brief.
A few more questions
Is SEO included in the website setup?
Basic setup and checks are different from a separately scoped SEO campaign. Ask which technical and content tasks are included. Rankings and enquiries are not guaranteed.
Do I have to pay a deposit before asking for an estimate?
No. An enquiry and estimate are free. Sage’s optional Ksh 1,000 refundable booking deposit applies to eligible projects estimated above Ksh 3,000 and is credited toward the final bill.
